There is a song (I can hear it in my head) by Andy Williams, “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”. I’m pretty certain he is referring to now, December, the holiday’s, the gear up to the end of year.
I don’t know about “The Most”, but I can agree that it can be a pretty wonderful time of the year. The caring and thoughtfulness, the giving and helping hands, the good cheer.
Every year at this time we see a flux of donations come our way for our Holiday Care and Winter Needs program. Gift cards. Food hampers and other items are distributed, but also, we get to stock up a little to start off the new year in a good way. After all, CAYR’s support runs all year through.
However, this time of year is a little extra special I guess for a little extra giving.
A few notables to thank for this recent generosity belong to:
- Little Elves
- Abuse Hurts
- United Way
- The Great Canadian Sox Shop
- Unionville Presbyterian Church
- Shoebox project
- Food Basics at Major Mackenzie & Leslie
- Newmarket Bingo & Charitable Gaming

So yes, it is wonderful, most certainly. But it is also a busy time of the year. Purchasing, delivering, packaging, Whew! So much running around. We have to remind ourselves to stop and see the wonder.
Unfortunately, we have to stop and also recognize the hardships and challenges that this time of year can bring. But, it is also those challenges that fuel us here at CAYR, and the donors listed above and named on our website, to keep doing what we can do.
To keep up the busy.
To keep up the wonderful.
To keep up the compassion.
