My House & ACYR announce merger; a significant step to ensure sustainability of vital social & recreational programs for LGBTQ+ community members in York Region.

My House: Rainbow Resources of York Region (My House) and the AIDS Committee of York Region (ACYR) announced an important merger today that provides an opportunity to sustain the programs and services that My House has been delivering to the LGBTQ+ communities in York Region over the last 5 years. The merger will result in the dissolution of My House as an independent non-profit organization and adoption of My House as a program of ACYR.

The Board of Directors of both organizations, along with the staff and key stakeholders, are excited by the change.

“By placing My House in the hands of ACYR, we are ensuring that the valuable programs that we have developed over the past 5 years are sustained under a stable and well-respected organization such as ACYR. This merger will ensure that we continue to offer safe social and recreational spaces to help improve health and wellness outcomes for LGBTQ+ community members in York Region,” said Melanie Kellen, Board Chair of My House.

“Welcoming My House into our fold helps ACYR expand our program scope to reach out to and engage members of the LGBTQ+ communities in our sexual health education and promotion programs in York Region,” said Dr. Matthieu Kamwa, Co-Chair of ACYR’s Board of Directors.

ACYR and My House have shared office space since the inception of My House in 2012, and work from the same philosophies of harm reduction, anti-oppression and inclusivity. The Board of Directors for both organizations are in agreement that this merger will help reduce service disruption and ensure access to a familiar and safe space for those who have been using My House programs.
